Adei Radio — The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) said Afghanistan is facing a deep humanitarian, economic and climate crisis, warning that NATO member countries have forgotten their commitments to support the Afghan people.
Jan Egeland, secretary-general of the NRC, said cuts in
humanitarian funding have forced aid organizations to reduce food, water,
shelter and medical assistance for vulnerable Afghan families.
According to the NRC, more than 6 million Afghans have
returned from neighboring countries since late 2023, while up to 73% of
returnees remain unemployed.
The NRC said only 26% of the funding required for
Afghanistan’s humanitarian response has been provided so far this year.
The organization called for increased humanitarian
assistance and greater investment in development in Afghanistan.
