Adei Radio — U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in the first cabinet reshuffle of his second term and nominated Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma to replace her, according to a report by the New York Post.
Trump announced the decision on Thursday, saying Mullin
would assume the role of Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
starting March 31, 2026.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described Mullin as a
“highly respected” senator and said he would help advance the administration’s
security and immigration agenda.
The president also said Noem, who had served as homeland
security secretary for more than a year, would move to a new role as special
envoy for the “Shield of the Americas,” a security initiative focused on the
Western Hemisphere that the administration plans to unveil in Florida.
The New York Post reported that Trump’s decision came after
Noem told Congress earlier in the week that the president had approved $220
million worth of advertising campaigns featuring her. Trump later accused her
of providing false testimony before removing her from the position.
According to the report, Noem had also faced intense
bipartisan questioning from lawmakers in recent congressional hearings
regarding departmental spending and other issues.
Despite her dismissal, Noem thanked Trump on social media
for appointing her to the new diplomatic role and said she looked forward to
working with senior U.S. officials to combat drug trafficking and strengthen
security partnerships in the Western Hemisphere.
Trump praised Mullin in his announcement, calling him a
“MAGA warrior” who would work to strengthen border security, combat
migrant-related crime and curb the flow of illegal drugs into the United
States.
The New York Post reported that the move marks the first
major cabinet shakeup since Trump returned to power in January 2025.
