Adei Radio — Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have signed an agreement for the purchase of natural gas from the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, according to Afghanistan’s Economic Affairs Office of the Prime Minister.
The office said the agreement between Afghan Gas and Turkmen
Gas was signed Monday at the Torghundi port in Herat province following a
meeting between officials from the two sides.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, deputy prime minister for
economic affairs, said the gas distribution network for the TAPI project will
soon begin operating in Herat city and the province’s industrial park. He said
the work will be carried out by Turkmen Gas in cooperation with the private
sector.
According to the Economic Affairs Office, the agreement will
determine the price of TAPI gas, Afghanistan’s gas requirements and the process
for distributing the gas.
